I hope this letter finds you well. Back in 2016, you helped me during some of the most difficult moments in my life. I was seventeen years old and had gotten in trouble with the law. When I was arrested, I thought my life was over and my dreams of becoming an attorney vanished. From the first time I visited your office, however, my outlook changed. I know I was in good hands.
The way you handled my case, talked my mother and I through the process, and went to bat for me crosses my mind frequently. Before we met, I had always been interested in the law. After you helped me, I knew I needed to seek a career in the law. Your professionalism, kindness, empathy, and communication have served as an example to me.
Since the last time we spoke, long ago regarding my case, I worked to get on the right track. I completed my bachelor’s degree in 2023. Later that year, I began my first year of law school at the University of Toledo College of Law. Today, my first year of law school is behind me. Additionally, I spent this summer working for a public defender office in the Upper Peninsula. I look forward to completing my law degree and becoming an attorney.
None of my successes thus far would have been possible without the hard work and attention you gave my case. Further, the spark and motivation I have to become an attorney would not exist if not for the example you set.
I wanted to write to you to thank you. After having spent some time at a public defenders office this summer, and speaking with a number of attorneys, I have to learn being an attorney can be a thankless job. May 1st marked the beginning of my post-probation life, and thanks to you, my wife and therapist, I have made it through the past 23 months in one piece. Thanks to my Therapist, I face the future with confidence. However, it is thanks to you that I actually have a future!!! I don’t know how you did it but my wife and I are absolutely certain that I would be in prison today if not for you. Really, I cannot begin to thank you enough for the help you have given me. I want to take this opportunity to thank you for all you did for me during my case. There is no question about your skill as a criminal defense lawyer. In my opinion, you’re the best in business. Words cannot totally express my profound appreciation for all you have done for me and my family. You really work and care for your clients. I have witnessed terrible actions by other lawyers. While it is true you get what you pay for, there are lawyers who take money and ignore the client’s needs. You are not one of those types of attorneys. You are one of a kind. -M
